‘Utterly Inane Policy’: Peters Says U.S. Is Now Helping Iran in Iraq

Wednesday on America’s Newsroom, Bill Hemmer reported there are now “up to 100,000 Iranian-backed Shiite militia fighters” on the ground in Iraq.

He asked Fox News military analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters [Ret.] what that means for the West’s mission in the region.

Peters criticized the Obama administration’s military strategy

“The militias are actually Iraqi-Arab Shi’a, but backed by Iran. We have reached a point through utterly inane policy…that every bomb we drop from Mosul southward, every weapon we provide to the Iraqi government…ultimatelyBENEFITS Iran.”

“TheSTRUGGLE is [now] by the Shi’a-dominated Iranian-backed Baghdad government…to re-conquer Sunni Arab sections of Iraq,” Peters said. “We are helping Iran.”

Peters offered a decisive suggestion on how to proceed with the current mission.

“Except for backing the Kurds, I would pull out of Iraq entirely. I would let the Iranians and ISIS duke it out—let them kill each other.”

“We have lost Iraq,” Peters said.
