Ranks 5. The Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran along with ISI of Pakistan
(Persian: وِزارَتِ اِطّلاعات جُمهوریِ اِسلامیِ ایران Vezarat-e Ettela’at Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran) is the primary intelligence agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran and a member of the Iran Intelligence Community. It is also known as VAJA and previously as VEVAK (Vezarat-e Ettela’at va Amniyat-e Keshvar) or alternatively MOIS. It was initially known as SAVAMA, when it took over the previous regime’s intelligence apparatus. The ministry is one of the three “sovereign” ministerial bodies of Iran due to nature of its work at home and abroad.
Inter-Services Intelligence is a premier intelligence agency from Pakistan, known for providing highly critical national intelligence and assessment for the Government of Pakistan. Formed in 1948, ISI is located in Islamabad, Pakistan. ISI is the largest of the three intelligence agencies in Pakistan, the other two being Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI). In the 1990s, ISI is known to have provided intelligence support to the Taliban in Afghan during the civil war.
